Department of Accounting
Welcome to the Accounting Department!
A crucial part of all businesses and organizations, today's accountants are strategic thinkers, insightful planners and tech-savvy problem solvers. Learn to make financial decisions and drive strategy, as well as effectively communicate financial information for any business or organization.
A degree in accounting provides an array of exceptional career opportunities, and because all organizations need accounting, you can enter any business that supports your interests. Film, sports, travel, banking, non-profits—they all need accountants.
The College of Business, Engineering, and Computational & Mathematical Sciences is AACSB accredited – the gold standard among business program accreditations with fewer than 5% of programs worldwide being AACSB accredited.
You have options...
Frostburg State University provides two accounting programs available through the College of Business, Engineering, and Computational & Mathematical Sciences as well as multiple options for personalizing your degree. Choose from multiple options:

*These programs are administered outside the Accounting Department, but are shown here as programs that students frequently explore as complements to their Accounting major. Talk with your advisor for more information.
Careers
We prepare students for careers and certifications in many areas of the accounting profession:

- internal auditing,

Among the certifications our students pursue are the

A senior executive director with staffing firm Robert Half International says, “Demand (for accountants) is off the charts and it is an excellent time to be an accountant.” According to the AICPA, hiring of new accounting graduates in CPA (public accounting) firms alone grew 21% in 2012 over 2010 hiring and a hefty 58% over 2008 hiring.
Beyond the Classroom
Our students receive attention in small classroom settings and are taught by full-time faculty with diverse accounting backgrounds and professional certifications. Students are assigned an academic advisor from the Accounting Department and we take pride in mentoring our students and maintaining relationships long after graduation.
